Horse Chestnut June

Row of Red Horse Chestnuts (Aesculus × carnea or pavia). A line of nine Red Horse Chestnut trees is growing by the fence. The Red Horse Chestnut is a hybrid of the Common Chestnut. These are a rare American red flowered species Aesculus pavia. In early Summer, red flowers are held in candle shaped inflorescences amid palmate or hand shaped leaves.  (Source: Dr Mary Forrest, UCD).
